TOEFL TestReady: what ETS's prep portal gives you, free and paid
TOEFL TestReady is the prep portal run by ETS, the organisation that makes the TOEFL. A free account gets you more than most people expect, and several parts cost money. This page lists both, using ETS's own descriptions, so you know what you are getting before you sign in.
1. What TOEFL TestReady is
TOEFL TestReady is ETS's own prep portal for the TOEFL iBT. ETS announced it on 7 February 2024 and describes it as a personalised, one-stop portal that brings its existing prep products together with new ones: practice tests, courses, guides, books, performance insights and progress tracking.
ETS says that all feedback, recommendations, personalised insights and tips in the portal are developed by the same teams that write and produce the TOEFL iBT test.
You open it by signing in to your ETS account on ets.org. The account is free, and you can create one before you have booked a test. We are an independent practice site, not ETS, so we cannot see or reset your TestReady account; ETS has a dedicated TestReady support page for that.
2. What a free account includes
These are the items ETS lists as free:
| Free item | What ETS says you get |
|---|---|
| Full-length practice test | One full-length test with AI-powered automated scoring, performance feedback for all 4 sections, and personalised feedback and tips for Speaking and Writing responses |
| Daily activity | A free activity from one of the 4 test sections, such as a Reading passage and related questions. It rotates daily |
| Study plan | Answer 5 short survey questions to generate a free interactive study plan |
| Free samples | Sample practice items from each of the 4 skill sections for Section Tests and for Section Practice |
The free full-length test is the most useful of the four. It is the only place to get ETS's own automated scoring across all four sections without paying.
3. What is paid
| Paid product | What it is, per ETS |
|---|---|
| Section Tests | Practise one section in test mode. You receive an estimated section score and CEFR level, personalised feedback on Speaking and Writing, and a review of correct and incorrect answers in Reading and Listening |
| Section Practice | Practise a complete section at your own pace with immediate scores, feedback and insights, including why each answer option was right or wrong |
| Focused Practice | Sets of one question or task type with immediate scores, feedback and insights |
| TOEFL Practice Online (TPO) | Full mock tests built from authentic test questions, with scores and performance feedback within 24 hours |
| Guides and books | The Official Guide to the TOEFL iBT Test and the Official TOEFL iBT Tests volumes, in eBook or paperback |
| Value packs | Bundles of prep products, test registrations and extra score reports sold together at a discount |
We do not quote prices here. ETS shows them in the TestReady shop after you sign in, they differ between products, and they change.
One regional note from ETS: in the Republic of Korea, TPO products are bought through ETS's in-country provider, and only TPO Volume 31 can be purchased through TestReady.
4. What ETS says about score prediction
ETS's claim, in its own words: "Research shows that performance in TOEFL TestReady can help you accurately predict your score on test day. The better your performance in the portal, the more likely it is for you to achieve a higher TOEFL iBT score."
The page does not say how close the prediction is or publish the study. A sensible reading is that a TestReady score tells you roughly where you stand, and that one sitting on one day can still land either side of it. If the score you need is close to the score you got, leave yourself time for another attempt.
5. How to use it well
- Do not spend the free full-length test on day one. ETS describes a single free full-length test, so treat it as scarce. Learn the task types first, then sit it under real conditions, in one go, with a microphone and no pauses.
- Check which test format you are opening. The TOEFL iBT changed on 21 January 2026. Before you start any practice product, confirm it matches the format of the test you have booked.
- Use the daily activity as a habit, not as a plan. It rotates between sections, so on its own it will not cover the section you are weakest in.
- Read the Speaking and Writing feedback closely. ETS lists feedback on speech rate, rhythm, pronunciation and grammar for Speaking, and on grammar, usage and mechanics for Writing, with example responses to compare against.
6. When one free test is not enough
One full-length test gives you a starting point. It cannot show whether you are improving, because you need a second sitting to compare against. From there the choices are ETS's paid products or practice from other providers.
Ours is one of those. We publish full-length and section tests in the 2026 format, and the first test in each section and the first full-length test are free, with evaluation of your Speaking and Writing included. They are written by us, not by ETS, so use them for volume and for feedback between official checkpoints, and use ETS's own material when you want the official measure.
7. Questions people actually ask
Is TOEFL TestReady free?
The account is free, and ETS lists several things you can use at no cost: one full-length practice test with automated scoring and feedback, a daily activity that rotates between the four sections, a study plan built from five survey questions, and free samples of Section Tests and Section Practice. Section Tests, Section Practice, Focused Practice, TOEFL Practice Online tests, books and value packs are paid.
Is TOEFL TestReady official?
Yes. TestReady is ETS's own prep portal. ETS announced it on 7 February 2024 and says the feedback, recommendations and tips in it are developed by the same teams that write and produce the TOEFL iBT test.
Does a TestReady score predict my real TOEFL score?
ETS says research shows that performance in TOEFL TestReady can help you accurately predict your score on test day, and that the better your performance in the portal, the more likely you are to achieve a higher TOEFL iBT score. The ETS page does not say how close the prediction is, so treat a TestReady result as an indication and not a guarantee.
How many free practice tests does TestReady give you?
ETS describes the free offer as a full-length practice test, in the singular, plus a free daily activity and free sample items. Further scored tests, such as Section Tests and TOEFL Practice Online, are paid.
How do I log in to TOEFL TestReady?
You sign in with your ETS account on ets.org. If you are new to TOEFL, you create a free ETS account at the same place, and you do not need to have registered for a test first.
Is TestReady accessible to screen readers?
ETS states that the TOEFL iBT Sample Test and the digital prep products offered through TOEFL TestReady are accessible to screen readers, with the exception of TOEFL Practice Online.
Where these facts come from
